Repeal of the Pyrethrum Act
The Bill proposes to repeal the Pyrethrum Act (Cap. 340) in its entirety. This action eliminates the distinct legislative framework that previously governed pyrethrum separately from other crops.
Consolidation Under the Crops Act
With the repeal of Cap. 340, the regulation of pyrethrum is harmonized under the Crops Act (Cap. 318). This ensures that pyrethrum is regulated within the same unified statutory framework as other scheduled crops in Kenya.

Background
The Pyrethrum (Repeal) Bill, 2024 addresses regulatory overlaps in Kenya's agricultural sector. Currently, pyrethrum is regulated under the Pyrethrum Act (Cap. 340), which conflicts with the Crops Act (Cap. 318). The Crops Act was enacted to provide a harmonized and unified legislative framework for the regulation of all scheduled crops. Repealing the Pyrethrum Act resolves these statutory conflicts and aligns the sector with national agricultural policy.
Key Amendments
- Repeal of Cap. 340: Section 2 of the Bill formally repeals the Pyrethrum Act (Cap. 340). Consequently, the management and regulation of pyrethrum will be fully integrated into the provisions of the Crops Act (Cap. 318).
